The LLL also runs a representative team for which the best players from across the LLL are selected to play against other representative teams. The team plays three or four fixtures each year, usually against Cambridge University and the representative teams of the Amateur Football Combination and the Arthurian League (the latter being the Old Boys Independent Schools League).
The World Cup and European Cup of Lawyers
The legal profession in London has a proud history of sending representative teams to the Mundiavocat (World Cup for Lawyers) and European Lawyers Football Cup.
The Mundiavocat and ELF Cup attract hundreds of lawyers from all over the world to participate in their high profile tournaments. The competitions are held over a period of 5-10 days in a different major international city each year.
London Lawyers FC
London Lawyers FC (LLFC) is a club that represents the London legal industry in a Saturday football league which plays across London. LLFC plays in the Amateur Football Combination – with 27 divisions and 297 teams it is Europe’s largest amateur football league. We play against old boys’ university teams (such as LSE, Kings College London and UCL College London), old boys’ school teams (from throughout London) and a number of professional and financial business representative teams (such as Barclays Bank and Standard Chartered).
LLFC was established in 2004 and has enjoyed success and plaudits over its ten-year history including winning promotion to the premier division in 2010 and Spirit of Football awards in 2007 and 2013.
The club currently has a squad of 20 players representing twelve London law firms and ranging in age from 24 to 36. The club is currently represented by lawyers from the following firms: Linklaters, Ashurst, Baker & McKenzie, SNR Denton, CMS Cameron McKenna, Norton Rose Fulbright, Mishson De Reya, Sheridans, Addleshaw Goddard, Paul Hastings, Berwin Leighton Paisner and Harbottles.The club also has players from other professional firms such as KPMG, Morgan Stanley and Deloitte and Aviva Investors Hedge Fund.
The club is planning to create a team to play in a veteran’s league for over-thirty-five year-olds which is being established by the Amateur Football Combination and which will begin next season. The team will consist of partners, senior associates, senior in-house lawyers and other senior professionals.
